Care families with asbestos lung cancer for ... - Mesothelioma ...
THE family of a joiner who retired to Dartmouth has received compensation after he developed fatal asbestos lung cancer disease.
Ted Hall, originally from Sunderland, died aged 80, months after being diagnosed with mesothelioma, the fatal cancer of the lining of the lungs which is caused by exposure to asbestos lung cancer.
Mr Hall was exposed to asbestos lung cancer as a 15-year-old apprentice and joiner, while working on the River Wear.
After taking legal action, his family have also been able to repay Torquay?s Rowcroft Hospice for the care he received before he died.
The compensation hearing was told the father of two ? who moved to Dartmouth in 2004 with his wife of 60 years Patricia ? was never warned of the risk by his employers, nor was he given any protection against asbestos lung cancer. Mr Hall was diagnosed with mesothelioma in December, 2010, after suffering from breathlessness and pain across his shoulders.
He died just five months later, in May 2011, at Rowcroft Hospice.
Following his death, Mrs Hall instructed asbestos lung cancer claims specialists Thompsons Solicitors to investigate a claim for compensation.
She said: ?Ted was exposed to asbestos lung cancer when he was just a teenager and, as a result, mesothelioma took his life. It was important to the family to make sure someone took responsibility for his painful death.?
Eamonn McDonough, from Thompsons Solicitors, added: ?I am pleased we have achieved a successful outcome on behalf of the family and also recovered compensation for Rowcroft Hospice?s costs as part of the claim to reimburse the hospice for the high level of care they provided in Mr Hall?s final days.?
