Paul McCartney Marries Nancy Shevell! (omg!)

All they need is love!

Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell said "I do" in England Sunday, Us Weekly confirms. The former Beatle, 69, wed Shevell, 51, in a small ceremony at the registry office in Marylebone. A source tells Us the duo are planning to throw a separate party in NYC for their friends in the United States.

Shevell wore an above-the-knee ivory dress designed by McCartney's daughter, Stella; The Beatles rocker wore a dark suit. According to Reuters, McCartney presented Shevell with a 5-carat square-cut Neil Lane diamond set in a platinum ring.

The first wedding guests arrived at the Marylebone registry office at 2:25 p.m.; the ceremony began at 3:30 local time and lasted one hour. The intimate affair was attended by 30 of the couple's close friends and family, including Ringo Starr and his wife Barbara Back, George Harrison's widow Olivia, Shevell's son Arlen, and her cousin, Barbara Walters.

McCartney's driver, John, acted as the official videographer for the wedding, standing by the car and filming the couple.

The Old Marylebone Hall is also where McCartney married his first wife, Linda Eastman, in 1969.

After exchanging vows, the newlyweds left hand-in-hand looking "very much in love." According to one onlooker, McCartney gave the crowd a thumbs-up before hopping into a maroon-colored Lexus with his new wife and daughter Beatrice.

"McCartney seemed over the moon!" the onlooker adds. "He was smiling and was holding hands with Nancy the whole time!

The couple's reception will be held at McCartney's home in St. Johns Wood, which he has owned since 1965. He addressed the press outside the estate, telling them he feels "terrific. I feel wonderful."

Preparations for the reception began days earlier, as bouquets of pale yellow roses, several bags of ice and sound equipment were delivered Friday. The following morning, a gazebo was erected outside the rocker's home as workers delivered 135 silver chairs, 10 tables and an easel.

Attendees will dine on a selection of small savory tarts at the post-wedding bash, such as vegetable gyoza and goat cheese and chervil polenta. Other menu items included fresh mango, tomatoes, red cabbage and cranberries, and desserts of elderflower-flavored creme fraiche with mixed berries. "We have been preparing for three days," a catering source told Us.

There are also two tiered cakes created by West Sussex-based Posh Puds Patisserie: one is vegan (made with apples) and the second is chocolate.

In May, Shevell told The New York Post her and McCartney's wedding would include "just our families." She added: "Don't ask what I'll wear because how dressy do you get to stand before a Justice of the Peace in his chambers, which is exactly what we're going to do."

A source tells Us McCartney proposed to Shevell in April "during a romantic candlelit dinner for two" after four years of dating. As for the ring? It's estimated to be worth an impressive $650,000!

PHOTOS: Hollywood's most expensive divorces

This is Shevell's second marriage and McCartney's third. The rocker's first wife Linda died of cancer at age 56 in 1998. His second marriage to Heather Mills in 2002 ended with a messy, expensive divorce six years later.

It's all about risk and reward -- the sources that have the highest historical gain have also had the most short-to-medium-term risk. What's the plan for the money you'd like to invest? Is this for retirement in 30+ years, home down payment in < 10 years, or something else? Are you looking to invest in a tax-advantaged account such as 401k or IRA, or a taxable account?

I suggest that you explain what your goals are, and read up on the wiki: http://www.bogleheads.org/wiki/Getting_Started

Welcome to the forum Smile .

Here is a good place to start your real education on investing,

Investing Essentials: A Primer

Skip the day trading. Look for low-expenses, broad diversification, and tax efficiency using index funds.

Do you have access to a 401k at work? If not, think about opening an IRA at Vanguard to start.

thanks. yes im going to invest in 401k and roth ira. im not doing any day trading cause i dont have the time or patience or knowledge. i want to do mutual funds but i hear they are expensive.so im probably going to go with indexing.

I would invest $5k into a roth IRA for this year and another $5k at the beginning of next year. The advantage of the Roth IRA is that you can withdraw the contributions if there is an emergency.

You may want to look into target retirement or life strategy (growth) funds offered by Vanguard for a one fund choice.

second my dilema starts with i have about 10 grand saved up right now sitting at a saving account collecting a minimal one percent. i always wanted to invest money in the market and have been reading all kinds of books about the stock market. mutual funds, day trading, index investing and all.
so im gonna save about 15 grand and then invest 10 grand in the market but i have no idea where to start. whats a good way to invest this money in a safe way that pays better than that 1 percent.
i would really appreciate the help. thanks

Hello saied and welcome to the forum,
Unfortunately there is no real way to invest in the stock market in a safe way and be sure of a return >1%. Some years the stock market goes down a lot. In 2008 for example the s&p 500 lost 37% and other markets (emerging markets) did worse. As they say, you pay your money and you take your chances.

If you want to guarantee a return of 2.75% you could invest in 7 year pen fed cds.
https://www.penfed.org/product....icates.asp
if you need the money before 7 years, you can cash out and lose a years interest.

As far as the stock market goes, the two funds I would recommend are the Vanguard Total Stock Market Index (VTSMX) and the Vanguard Total International Stock index (VGTSX). Probably in a 70/30 ratio. There is also this fund:
Vanguard Total World Stock Market index (VTWSX) which covers the whole world. But it has more than half of its stocks in international and has a higher expense ratio of 0.45%.
hope this helps
cheers,

Welcome to the forum.

Take your time. You are off to a good start with your savings. At this point in your investing life cycle, your SAVINGS RATE is much more important than investment rate of return. Once you have a bigger nest egg - your rate of return will be more important. But at this point - not so much. Wealth is accumulated by spending less than you earn, not by hitting a jack-pot on the stock market. So don't gamble, try to pick the next Google or Apple - and risk losing it all. Take the recommended slow and steady approach.

Read the Investing Startup Kit here: http://www.bogleheads.org/wiki....art-up_kit

Consider a simple 2 or 3 or 4 fund portfolio. Keep it very simple!

Write up your plan. http://www.bogleheads.org/foru....hp?t=69802 You can revise it as you learn - but don't change it based on market news - only change it based on new personal knowledge and personal circumstances.

Pick a Lazy Portfolio to start: http://www.bogleheads.org/wiki/Lazy_Portfolios Nobody knows which will do best over the next 3/5/10 years - so just keep it simple until you have a very very very good reason to get more complex.

Start conservatively - mostly bonds - say 25% stock/75% bonds - until you get some cushion built up - donno - say $100k - and you get some experience watching the wiggly lines on the charts. Then switch to "age in bonds" when you have >$100k

Look into the Core Four: http://www.bogleheads.org/foru....hp?t=10413

Perhaps something like:
15% VTSMX / VTI Total US Stock Market
10% VFWIX / VEU International
05% VGSIX / VNQ Real Estate Index
70% VBMFX / BND Total Bond Fund

Phew - I've written too much.

good luck.

Day after wedding, McCartney announces tour dates (Reuters)

LONDON (Reuters) ? The day after he tied the knot with American heiress Nancy Shevell, ex-Beatle Paul McCartney announced 11 extra dates for his "On the Run" tour ending in his native town of Liverpool, England, on December 20.

His third marriage looks unlikely to slow the 69-year-old down, with his first ever gig in the UAE on November 13 to coincide with the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 race.

McCartney then travels to Italy, France and Germany, heads back to Britain for a night at London's O2 Arena on December 5, takes in Sweden, Finland and Russia before ending the year with a concert in Manchester on December 19 and Liverpool the next day.

"Playing live is one of the most exciting parts of my job," the musician said in a statement released Monday.

"My audiences seem to get better each year and the band and I love the buzz and feedback that they give us. I can't wait to see you all for some wild nights of rock n' roll and partying."

McCartney married Shevell, 51, Sunday in London and the newlyweds celebrated with a low-key reception at his home in the city.

The "Hey Jude" singer also recently unveiled his first ever ballet score, "Ocean's Kingdom," in New York.

Deputy CFC commander tapped as new JCS chairman ... - NK News

SEOUL, Oct. 9 (Yonhap) ? The deputy commander of the South Korea-U.S. Combined Forces Command, Army Gen. Jung Seung-jo, has been named the new chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, defense officials said Sunday.

?? In a major reshuffle of top military officers, Jung will replace Gen. Han Min-koo as South Korea?s top military officer, the officials said.

?? Kwon Oh-seong, the JCS officer in charge of operations, was named the new deputy commander of the Combined Forces Command while No.2 Navy officer Choi Yun-hee was designated to lead the Navy. Another Navy officer, Lee Ho-yeon, was tapped as the new commandant of the Marine Corps.

?? The Cabinet is expected to authorize the military reshuffle on Tuesday before President Lee Myung-bak formally appoints the officers to their new military positions.

?? The move comes as South Korea seeks defense reforms to build a stronger military amid lingering tensions with North Korea over two deadly attacks on the South last year. (Yonhap)

Criminal Lawyers help maintain a 'Fair' Criminal Justice System |

If you have been charged with a criminal offence, your best chance of getting a ?fair? and ?just? resolution is to hire a criminal lawyer. Criminal lawyers do not just advocate on their client?s behalf, but they are important advocates for maintaining a ?just? and fair? criminal justice system. They make sure that their clients rights are not violated during the criminal legal process such as making sure there have not been any illegal searches and making sure all evidence is provided prior to the trial. Without the representation of a criminal lawyer, you will have a difficult time representing yourself and you will greatly increase your chances of receiving the most severe conviction.

The criminal law system is a very complex system that requires a professional that understands all of the aspects of the legal process. There is a lot that has to be done in preparation for a trial such as interviewing witnesses, reviewing reports by the police to make sure there were not any mistakes made, filing motions, researching similar cases, and determining how best to proceed with a case. It important to be aware that often mistakes can be made by police of which can lead to a reduction in charges, certain evidence not being allowed to be presented at trial, and sometimes a case can be dismissed. Without a criminal lawyer, you may miss something that is really important that will benefit your case. An important function of the criminal lawyer is to identify any issues that can lead to a better outcome for their client.

Criminal lawyers are able to thoroughly review a client?s case and all evidence put forth by the police and prosecutors to determine their clients best options such as negotiating a plea, challenging specific evidence, filling motions to have charges reduced or dropped, or taking the case to trial. They are experts at determining how to argue a case that best benefits their client. Criminal lawyers understand how the criminal process works, how to challenge evidence, and how to question witnesses in a trial. During a trial, their job is to create reasonable doubt and their experience and knowledge of the criminal justice system helps them greatly in creating reasonable doubt.

Criminal lawyers follow a code of ethics and are most effective when their clients are honest when providing information about a case, including the events that resulted in the criminal charge. It is always wise to speak to a criminal lawyer before providing statements to police to ensure your rights are protected. Criminal lawyers represent a wide range of clients and charges. It can be something minor such as a traffic ticket to a serious charge such as murder. When charged with a criminal offense, it is important to have a criminal lawyer on your side to ensure your rights are protected and the outcome is both ?fair? and ?just.?

Criminal lawyers have the experience and knowledge of criminal law and understand all of the legal details and aspects to ensure you are properly represented. When you hire a criminal lawyer to represent you, you will rest easy knowing that you have a professional that is fighting on your behalf while protecting your rights.

DeMarco: Wise Rangers making all the right moves

Ownership stabilization, offseason moves made Washington's team better than last year's

Image: Texas Rangers v Seattle MarinersGetty Images

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels says manager Ron Washington "takes on the character of the manager, and he has been perfect for this team."

OPINION

updated 5:25 p.m. ET Oct. 6, 2011

Tony DeMarco

While the Yankees and Tigers battled through a tight, five-game first-round series (with the Tigers advancing Thursday night), the Texas Rangers sat home and wait.

Take that as another measure of how far they've come since the 2010 postseason.

Owner/president Nolan Ryan hasn't shied away from saying he believes this Rangers team is better than last year's American League pennant winner. And he's right.

These aren't the same Rangers who entered last postseason with a history full of doubts. At that point, they had never won a pennant in their half-century of existence ? just three division titles in the late-1990s.

They had never won a postseason series, and their record in three ALDS appearances ? all against the Yankees ? was 1-9.

Last October, the Rangers franchise was only two months removed from a bankruptcy case and ownership change, and seven months earlier their manager admitted to a one-time cocaine use slip-up that stained his reputation, if not threatened his job security.

But look at the Rangers now:

Their 96 regular-season wins were a club record, and marked the first time in franchise history they reached the 90-win mark in consecutive years.

The ownership stabilization has led to a payroll bump-up to near the $100-million mark from just under $70 million, where it had been stuck in neutral for five seasons.

That didn't prevent free-agent Cliff Lee from bolting to Philadelphia last winter, but what the Rangers didn't spend on Lee they used for a series of key acquisitions led by Adrian Beltre ? or should we say, after ALDS Game 4 in Tampa, Bel-trey.

After that three-homer game, Beltre said about his choice last winter, "From my point of view, Texas gave me the best chance to put a ring on my finger, and I am just two steps away from it.''

Interesting, since he played last season for the Red Sox, who chose to pay for Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez instead.

As for the Rangers' next step, they already have dismissed the AL team with the best rotation ? the Rays ? and did it fairly easily in four games.

Along the way, they conquered David Price and James Shields ? the latter who had been very successful against them ? and exposed the bullpen weakness that Rays manager Joe Maddon masterfully kept to a minimum during the regular season.

So other than the possibility of a couple of Justin Verlander starts, there's little left to fear for the Rangers when it comes to opposing AL starting pitchers.

And besides, even without Lee, the Rangers' rotation is strong enough that they could afford to move Alexi Ogando back to the bullpen, setting up the postseason's most-dominant late-inning combination of options for manager Ron Washington.

You can point to the Rangers' losing regular-season records against the Tigers (3-6) and Yankees (2-7), but all but three of those games were played before the midseason deals for Koji Uehara, Mike Gonzalez and Mike Adams that transformed the Rangers' bullpen.??

This group will shut you down with strikeout stuff in the late innings, and it's no wonder Washington isn't questioned so much anymore about his handling of the bullpen. In fact, after signing a two-year extension last winter, Washington apparently is in line for another.

"I love the guy,'' general manager Jon Daniels said about Washington earlier this week. "A team takes on the character of the manager, and he has been perfect for this team. There are a lot of great managers who do different things well, but how many managers really inspire their players? How many truly inspire them and get them to play beyond their abilities? That's what Wash does.''

One look at the Rangers' stolen-base totals ? two players with 30-plus, three others in double figures ? tells you this isn't the one-dimensional slugging lineup of the late-1990s. But that's not to say they still don't mash home runs.

Adding Beltre and Mike Napoli has cranked up the power so much that 2010 AL MVP Josh Hamilton finished fifth in this lineup in home runs despite playing 121 games. That's right, fifth: Beltre and Ian Kinsler (32), Napoli (30) and Nelson Cruz (27) hit more.?

During the regular season, the Rangers offense led the majors in batting average (.283), was second in slugging percentage (.460) and third in runs with 855.

Then they dismissed Tampa Bay despite Elvis Andrus, Michael Young and Cruz contributing next to nothing offensively ? a combined 5-for-44 with no RBI.

"There's no question about it,'' said postseason whiz Colby Lewis, who is 4-0-1.67 after beating Tampa Bay in the critical Game 2. "We're a better team (than last year).''

CR 2: Insects, Arachnids, Arthropods and Invertebrates | Desert ...

Quite a?bit of excitement in the classroom this week as we kick off our study of all things creepy and crawly.? The children are learning all about the elements of an insect as well as the many categories of invertebrates.?

For example:? Insects have 6?legs and?3 body parts (head, thorax abdomen), while an arachnid has?8 legs and?2 body parts (head and?abdomen).?

?Wait a?minute,? asks classroom elder Gabby, ?what about a?millepede???

?That?s right,? says fellow elder Sam, ?a millepede has a?thousand legs.? That doesn?t make?sense.?

We discovered that a?millepede is an arthropod, an invertebrate with a?segmented body, jointed appendages and an exoskeleton, just like our classroom pet hermit crabs!? That got us?thinking.

?Wait, could you keep a?millepede as a?pet??? asks?Nathan.

It turns out that many people keep Giant African Millepedes as pets, and care for them in a?very specific manner.? Wow.? Sorry folks.? I?don?t think Ms. Adrienne will be joining that parade in the near future, though it is fascinating!

Thank you for sending your children with so many incredible insect books and studies.? The children take such pride in these academic materials, and love to read their personal books at school.? Please, keep it?coming!

Best,

Ms. Adrienne
